It Happened One Christmas: 4 Crazy Insurance Claims

Christmas is an extraordinary time of the year. Nonetheless, it can also set the scene for some of the funniest moments of the year in terms of insurance claims. You will eventually hear a few extraordinary claims when you work in the insurance business, especially during the holidays. Here are 4 of the craziest insurance claims ever made during the Holiday Season.

1. The Flying Christmas Tree

The tale of the flying Christmas tree is not that uncommon, considering the number of people who don't have a vehicle big enough to carry one safely. In Indiana, a man was getting on the highway after finishing up his Christmas shopping when he noticed the tree tied to the top of the vehicle in front of him didn't appear to be sufficiently secured. Before he realized what was happening, the tree, carried away by the wind, landed precariously on the hood of his car, breaking his windshield. Although the tree's owner continued down the road, the man got his windshield replaced and was allowed to keep the tree. Not the best way to find a tree, but at least it was free.

2. Let's Not Get Too Interactive

Most children and even a few adults love an excellent interactive game. The present-day Wi-Fi allows users to interact with a game on a new level. This can be good, or it can be terrible, depending on the situation. More televisions are replaced each year due to wireless game controllers than ever before. For instance, a young boy played an interactive game with his dad when he got a little too excited. After scoring a winning point, he let the controller fly from his hand straight into the family's brand new television screen.

3. Don't Forget to Feed the Dog

A family left its dog alone for a few hours, unaware that it happened to like mincemeat pies. Once alone, the puppy downed twelve little pies, including their packaging. The dog was quite unwell by the time the family arrived home, and a trip to the vet was in order. On the way to the vet, the dog threw up all of the pies. All was well in the end, except for the expensive vet bill, the subsequent insurance claim, and the spoiled car seats.

4. The Tree Is Alive!

One family had this tradition of going out together to the local tree farm and harvesting their very own tree. They happened to choose a very round, very dense fir tree. The tree farm owner wrapped the tree and helped the family secure it to the top of their Suburban. Once they got home and had the tree secured in its stand, they began to cut off the nets the farmer had placed around the tree. As the tree started to fluff out, the family realized something in the tree was alive. Everyone scattered as an extremely upset squirrel began to race around the living room. Quick calls to local animal control and their insurance agent were in order!
