Celebrate Earth Day: Learn to Save Our Planet

How to save our earth every day.

On Monday, April 22nd, people around the globe will celebrate Earth Day! For nearly 50 years people have honored this day to support environmental movements and build awareness around issues such as climate change. Anyone who has been keeping up with the latest news will know that us humans have been less than kind to the planet. The United Nations has warned that we have only 12 years to limit the climate change catastrophe. This means we all need to act now. Take a look at these impactful ways you can help the planet every day.

Recycle what you can

You may be throwing away something that you could be recycling. Double check with your local recycling center to see which plastics are acceptable to place in your curbside recycle can. This can help tons of plastic from ending up in landfills or oceans, and it can mean an old bottle is turned into a piece of a new park bench or bicycle rack.

Be conscious around the home

When you leave a room, turn the light out. When you brush your teeth, turn off the water. Be more conscious of the ways in which you use water and electricity in your own home. These changes are small, but can impact the planet as well as your utility bills.

Invest in reusable products

The average American produces about 4.3 pounds of trash in one day. That’s almost 1,600 pounds a year! One of the easiest ways to reduce your waste is to stop purchasing single-use water bottles and coffee cups. Invest in reusable bottles, take your own reusable bags to the grocery store, and skip the straws at restaurants.

Adopt a local, plant-based diet

Researchers at the University of Oxford found that cutting meat and dairy products from your diet could reduce an individual’s carbon footprint from food by up to 73 percent. Adopting more plant-based meals is the “single biggest way” to reduce your environmental impact.

Clean kindly

Start by creating a non-toxic environment within your home. Avoid using harsh chemicals that are not only toxic for humans, but for marine and wildlife near pipelines. Instead, whip up homemade, natural solutions that are kinder on your skin, wallet, and planet.
