Household Items That You Should Be recycling

Recycling, along with other efforts, may positively redirect the direction the planets environment is headed towards. Are you recycling correctly?

You likely already know the basics of recycling and likely spend some time sorting your paper, plastics, aluminum from your everyday garbage. Even if you don't want to, some U.S. states require it by law. Aside from the everyday recyclable items, there may be some of which you have been unaware! While some can go to the curb along with your weekly recyclables, others require a bit more effort on your part to help save the planet. But considering that millions of tons go into landfills each and every year, it's worth it. Here are some household items you should make sure to recycle.
  1. Books If you're looking to decrease the size of your library, throwing these in the recycling is not something you should do. Selling them or donating them to used bookstores and charities should be first on your list. Many of these will happily accept the books you no longer want (assuming they're in OK condition). Battered books usually require the spine to be removed since the adhesive isn't recyclable.
  2. Old Electronics You can't just toss your old computer or cell phone into the trash and forget about it. You have to bring them to tech centers that deal with proper disposal of technology. Battery fluids and other components can take hundreds or thousands of years to decompose and could be poisonous to the land.
  3. Coffee Pods If you're still brewing your daily coffee using a Keurig, you should stop immediately and do it the old fashioned way. Yes, it may take a little longer, but you are saving the oceans and countless marine lives by not using this toxic plastic. But if you absolutely need a Keurig to show off to your neighbors then be sure to properly dispose of these by completely separating the aluminum lid and plastic body, and throwing them into their appropriate containers.
