How to Get Your Boat Ready for Summer

Ready your boat for the summer waters.

Now that spring is here, it’s time to make the most of the season. While many of us are spring cleaning our homes and cars, we can’t forget to get the boat ready for the first waters of the year. Just as you prepared your boat for safe storage through winter, it will need some work to get it ready for the summer. Check out these tips that will help you to get your boat in tip-top shape for the season. Tune it up. Did you have your boat winterized last fall? It’s always a good idea to have your boat winterized at the end of each season. Even if you did or didn’t get it done last year, make sure to get a full tune-up before you hit the lake this summer. Charge it. Check all your batteries and charge to make sure they clean and in good working condition. Don’t forget to plug them in and have them charged and ready. Clear it out. If there’s any chance you have a bit of gas left in your tank from last season, fill it up with fresh gas as well as a stabilizer. This will prevent build-up in the gas lines and injection system. Check the propellers and hulls. Inspect propellers for cracks or dings and other damage. Be sure it is securely in place and replace bearings, if necessary. Thoroughly clean the hulls and decks and make sure the drain plug is secure. Review safety gear and equipment. Check lights, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detector and other safety equipment to be sure it’s in good working order. Make sure you have an adequate number of life jackets in proper sizes, as well as flotation devices for an emergency. Check your registration current and meets the requirements of your state. Review boat insurance coverage. Your boat needs reliable coverage to ensure safe and smooth sailing on the waters. No matter whether it’s spring or fall, safe sailing is imperative. Contact C.V.
