- Select the right storage location
Ideally, you will keep your car away from freezing temperatures, rain, frost, and storms by storing it in the garage all winter long. If you don’t have a covered place to keep your vehicle, consider looking for a storage facility that is secure.
Before you tuck it away for winter, clean the exterior of it, giving it a good scrub and wax. Pay special attention to insect remnants, bird droppings, and tree sap that could hurt the car’s paint.
Over time, fuel breaks down and causes damage to your carburetor or fuel injector components. A fuel stabilizer can prevent a breakdown, and it helps to keep gas fresh up to a year. Once the stabilizer has been added, take the car on a drive to ensure that the fuel and the product mix together.
It’s always recommended that the tires are properly inflated, and this is still important even when your car is not going to be in use. Top up the tires to the maximum PSI rating on the tire’s sidewall.
Unused batteries will lose their charge over time. Remove your battery and store it somewhere safe and dry. Consider getting a trickle charger to keep your battery in good working condition over the winter.
