On How to Navigate the Roads for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving road trips can be filled not with smiles and giving, but with anger and road rage. Here's how you can avoid that.

Thanksgiving is a great holiday where we reflect on what we have as Americans and give thanks for everything. Many of us hit the road to be with those that we love and eat together and spend a fine weekend. They say it's not about the destination, rather the journey. But if you've ever taken a road trip during Thanksgiving, you know that the journey is the worst part! Holiday road trips are filled with so much traffic, you can't help but let it get to you. Here are ways you can navigate the roads for Thanksgiving and keep your sanity.
  1. Leave Early (or Late) Depending on the length of your drive, your departure date can affect your drive. Most people hit the road on Wednesday, so if your drive will take many hours or days, consider leaving on Monday or Tuesday to beat the Wednesday traffic. If your drive will only take a few short hours, you might want to leave after the Wednesday traffic has died and leave early Thursday morning.
  2. Take Frequent Breaks Driving takes a toll on the mind. Be sure to pull over to a gas station every 3 to 4 hours to walk around and stretch your legs. You should also take this time to switch drivers and let the other person have a go.
  3. Bring a Good Book It's not every day you get to sit down in one spot for long hours. A good book can pass the time in between conversations and you'll finally get to read that book you've been meaning to for months.
