Tree Maintenance Tips for a Healthy Yard

How to keep your trees healthy.

Trees enhance any property, providing beauty, shade, and tranquillity. They can even increase the value of your property. While trees may be a delight, they should be properly maintained so that they stay healthy and happy. Maintenance will reduce the risk of a tree falling on your home, too! Take a look at these tips to help keep trees healthy, identify warning signs, and address problems. Inspect your trees often. This tip applies to all seasons! The sooner you spot a problem, the sooner you can take corrective action – and potentially save the tree. Check your trees often, and have a qualified arborist inspect them annually. Prune them at the right time. Trees should first be pruned when they are young, and then at regular intervals as they age. In generally, prune before winter so that you get rid of dying, diseased, and dead branches that may snap off in windstorms and damage your property. Fertilize the trees. Ideally, growing trees should be fertilized throughout the year. The greatest amounts should be applied during early spring and summer months. Add mulch. Protect the base of the trees by adding mulch. The mulch helps to protect the roots and base from extreme temperatures while allowing the soil to breathe. Learn to spot problems. Get to know the types of trees that are on your property. If you see dead and diseased limbs, it could indicate that there is a larger issue. If you see cavities, disfiguration or fungi on the trunk, this could indicate decay. Understand how you can help your property with these tips.
